Javier Fernández Rivera

I do web development (focusing on the front-end environment) where I look to optimize and make XHTML code more semantic, make CSS flexible and follow WCAG directives. I would like to believe that by doing that I am making the web more accessible and friendly for users.

I also like to give my two cents on the usability and design of the websites where I collaborate.

In 2002 I became part of the Cantábrico Sistemas team, as web programmer, where I could collaborate and develop projects for clients such as ALCOA, Economic Development Agency of Asturias and the Barredo Foundation.

Previously

I have very good memories from my time at the Sta Eulalia de Ujo school, where I taught IT as an extra curricular activity for two years to students in 3rd to 6th grade.

Years ago I also taught private lessons on programming and C language basics.

My projects

truequi's logo
It is an object exchange platform (videogames, books, music) which does not limit itself to bartering, but wants its objects to have a life of their own and where socialisation becomes a reality.

Training

Information Architecture for the web – APEI (December 2008)

Where I have met Yusef Hassan Montero, with who I have learned and practice issues regarding information architecture, user experience and interaction design.

Usability and web Accessibility – CTIC (February 2007)

Course taught by the people in charge of W3C Spanish Office. Building of websites using accessibility guidelines and developing interactive solutions under usability premises.

Semantic Web – summer University UOC (2006)

Here I found the semantic web potential regarding the ability to work together and recover information: DTD, RDF and RDF Schema, XML, N-Triples, SeRQL.

Accesibility and Web Standards – UOC (Aug – Sep 2006)

Where I was lucky to have Torres Burriel as teacher. The topics discussed were accessibility guidelines and web standards. Also experimentation to avoid the breach of such standards.

Multimedia Graduate – UOC (2003/04 a 2006/07)

For three years I was able to study several exciting subjects in detail, some of them were: design, web architecture, flash, video on the web, interfaces, usability and scripting of interactives.
More information about the Multimedia Graduate.

Associated Degree in IT (2000 – 2002)

Apart from studying the usual IT subjects, I took special interest in networks and protocols, C language programming, scripts, and databases.

The best school…

Much of what I’ve learned I owe to the Internet, and that might be why I feel obligated to give this knowledge back to the web. This is one of the reasons why I write in this web’s blog.
